A premier, early season charity ride to raise money for experiential learning at UrbanPromise Ministries. UrbanPromise Academy will be forming an Elite Cycling Team which will consist of students who commit to a twelve week training and conditioning regimen in preparation for the bike ride. Students not part of the Elite team will help with the event day operations.

A 6-day intensive outdoor expedition for invited graduating seniors. Students will canoe through the Saranac Lakes of New York and participate in hiking, rock climbing, and extensive reflection and journaling. The trip culminates in a 24-hour solo on individual islands in Lower Saranac Lake.

A three day, two night marine biology-focused expedition for the freshmen class at Barnegat Bay in New Jersey.  Students will study the natural marine habitats of the Barnegat Bay and present oral reports on a marine related topic at the end of the trip.

In 2016, UrbanPromise competed in the Independence Dragon Boat Regatta for the 2nd consecutive year and placed 1st in the 500M C Major Final in the mixed division with a team of UP youth, staff, and volunteers.  For the 2016 race, the UP Dragon Boat Team was able to practice in UP's very own dragon boat, built by the graduating classes of 2018 and 2019 from UrbanPromise Academy.  In 2017, UrbanPromise hopes to compete with a team in both the youth and mixed divisions.

What

Each year, upon the completion of the academic year, the students of Urban BoatWorks are invited along with their friends and families to launch the boats they have made onto the water.  Following a brief ceremony, participants spend the morning paddling their crafts on the Cooper River Lake and enjoying the fruit of their year-long labor in the boat shop.  For many participants, this is their very first time on the water, especially in a vessel they have build themselves!
