Assateague Island

Adventure Expedition

About This Trek...

A three-day eco tour first for the sophomore class in September and then for the freshman class in October on Maryland’s Assateague Island, this trek teaches youth about the island’s history and ecology through a variety of beach-related outdoor activities.

Core Values

Outdoor Adventures

While on the island, Trekkers camp, kayak, hike, swim, and star gaze—all surrounded by the beauty of the ocean and the island’s wild ponies.

Environmental Awareness

Students observe the local ecology of a barrier island and estuary ecosystem through nature hikes, kayaking, and beach camping.

Historical Perspectives

Trekkers learn about the island’s ecological and cultural history as it relates to its parks and inhabitants (both human and non-human).
